The Slovak Government Scholarship 2027
Funded directly by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sports of the Slovak Republic, this initiative is managed under the National Scholarship Programme (NSP). It is specifically built to support international mobility, allowing students, PhD candidates, university lecturers, and researchers from across the globe to spend up to a year embedded in Slovakia’s higher education system.
Who Can Apply?
The NSP is unique because it isn’t designed for full-degree enrollment from scratch. Instead, it acts as a fully funded research and study exchange mechanism. Applications are split across three primary categories:
- Master’s Students: You must be enrolled at a university outside of Slovakia and have completed at least 2.5 years of your total higher education track in the same field.
- PhD Candidates: Budding researchers whose doctoral training takes place outside Slovakia, but who have secured an invitation to conduct scientific or artistic research at a Slovak host institution.
- Lecturers, Researchers & Artists: Higher education professionals invited to Slovakia by a certified research center, university, or the Slovak Academy of Sciences to teach or collaborate.
Financial Coverage: Monthly Stipends
The scholarship is designed to comprehensively cover your living, food, and academic costs while living in Europe. The funding scales depending on your academic tier and professional experience:
| Applicant Category | Academic Status / Experience | Monthly Stipend |
| Master’s Exchange | Enrolled in 2nd Level Higher Ed | 620 EUR |
| PhD Exchange | Doctoral Candidate Track | 1,025.50 EUR |
| Academic / Researcher | No PhD + less than 4 years experience | 1,025.50 EUR |
| Senior Academic | With PhD + less than 10 years experience | 1,370 EUR |
| Expert Researcher | With PhD + more than 10 years experience | 1,470 EUR |
Understanding the Stay Durations
Because this is an exchange and mobility initiative, the timeframes are highly structured:
1.Master’s Students Track:1 to 2 Semesters.
Stays can last between 4 to 5 months (one semester) or 9 to 10 months (a full academic year). If your institution uses trimesters, options range from 1 to 3 terms.
2.PhD Candidates Track:1 to 10 Months.
Flexible placements ranging from a quick 1-month intensive lab stint up to a full 10-month research block.
3.Teachers, Researchers & Artists Track:1 to 10 Months.
Tailored research, workshop, or teaching sabbaticals aligned with your host facility’s academic calendar.
Essential Document Checklist
To pull together a competitive application, you will need to organize and digitize a comprehensive academic dossier:
- Detailed Academic CV: A professional resume highlighting your publications, projects, or artistic portfolio.
- Statement of Purpose: A targeted motivation letter explaining why Slovakia is critical to your project.
- Detailed Research or Study Plan: A concrete layout of what you plan to accomplish week-by-week.
- Acceptance/Invitation Letter: An official sign-off from your prospective Slovak host university or research facility.
- Two Recommendation Letters: Signed, formal endorsements from professors at your home institution.
